The funeral for Doris E. Crouch [of Mabel, Minnesota] will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in Mabel Public Cemetery. Mrs. Crouch, 87, of Mabel, died Monday (Jan. 22, 2007) at Harmony Healthcare in Harmony.

Doris Nickles was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Woolstock, Iowa. She attended country schools, then worked as a waitress while attending the Webster City (Iowa) High School, graduating in 1937. On June 21, 1939, she married Orrin C. Crouch in Webster City. In 1950, they moved to York Township, Fillmore County, and farmed there until 1967, when they moved to their farm in Preble Township, near Mabel. She moved to Mabel in 1977. She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church, WELCA and Anna Circle, and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, word puzzles and especially her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Sheryl Cook of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Marlys (Jim) Gordon of Harmony and Vicki (Phil) Kruegel of Preston; two sons, Steve (Jean) of Rushford and Dennis (Linda) of Mabel; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Marge) Nickles of Woolstock; and a sister, Marilyn (Dennis) O'Brien of Mazeppa. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 31, 1976, a sister, three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
