MRS. WELCH DIES AT HOME
Webster City Woman Had Been Resident of Community for 80 Years

Mrs. Rachel C. Welch, 89, died at 9:15 a.m. today at her home 900 Elm street. Services are pending with McCauley-Chapman's in charge. Mrs. Welch had lived in this community for the past 80 years. She was born in England. She taught rural school near here for three terms. She was married to H. D. Welch in 1873, and he preceded her in death in 1908. She moved to Webster City in 1910 and had lived here since. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She leaves the following children: Leslie R., Long Beach, Cal.; Minnie E, at home; Garth D., Hartford, S. D.; May A.. Moats, Vincent; Seth D., city; Lawrence J. city, and Mrs. Gertrude R. Peterson, Renwick. A son and two daughters also preceded her in death.

Welch Funeral Service To Be Held Tomorrow
Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Welch will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the McCauley-Chapman funeral home. Funeral will be made in Cass Center cemetery. The "Rev. T. B. Collins, of Clear Lake, former Methodist pastor here, will officiate. Friends wishing to see her may call at McCauley-Chapman's.

Rachel C. Garth was born in Swaledale, Yorkshire county, England, Sept. 4, 1850, and passed away at her home in Webster City, Oct. 9 [1939], at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 7 days. She emigrated to America with her parents in 1853, settling in Dubuque county, Iowa, on a small farm. Her father died Jan. 19, 1865, at Key West, Dubuque county, leaving her mother and 10 children. In June, 1869, her mother and seven children came west in covered wagons, settling on a farm in Cass township, Hamilton county. Her mother passed away Feb. 11, 1886, at her home in Hamilton county and was laid to rest in Cass Center cemetery.

Rachel C. Garth was married to Hiram Delos Welch, April 30, 1873. to this union were born ten children, five boys and five girls. Three of the children passed away in infancy. Mr. Welch died at the home in Wright county April 11, 1908. Rachel Garth Welch joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Rockdale, Dubuque county, in 1869, and had been a faithful member to the day of her death, later transferring her membership to her home church. She has been a loving and devoted mother, and will be remembered by the kind deeds and cheerful words given to her family and friends through life. she leaves to mourn her passing seven children: Leslie R., Long Beach, Cal.; Minnie E. Welch, Webster City; Garth D. Hartford, S. D.; May A. Moats, Vincent; Seth D., Webster City, Lawrence J., Webster City; Gertrude R. Peterson, Goldfield. 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, as well as a host of relatives and friends. Funeral service was held at the McCauley-Chapman funeral home Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. with Rev. T. B. Collins of Clear Lake, officiating and burial was made in the Cass Center cemetery.
