June 23, 2000Stanley K. Moe, 87, of Clarion, passed away Wednesday (June 21, 2000) at his home in Clarion. Memorial services for Stanley Moe will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with Pastor Celestyne DeVance officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery near Belmond, with military honors conducted by the Belmond Honor Guard. There will be no visitation, the body has been cremated.
Stanley, the son of Louis and Jannette (Sorenson) Moe was born Nov. 17, 1912, in Belmond. He grew up in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1932. Stanley was united in marriage with Mary Francis Kelly in 1936. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Belmond. Stanley was inducted into the United States Army in February of 1943. He was a master sergeant in the 528th Engr. L P Co. His company played a major roll in constructing bridges for river crossings for General Patton and the 3rd Armored Division in France. He served his country in several battles and campaigns during WWII, including Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe. Stanley was awarded the Bronze Star in March of 1945. Following his discharge in 1945, Stanley returned to the Belmond area. Stanley farmed three miles west of Belmond for 20 years. He also operated Moe Construction Company for seven years, and was a greens keeper at the Claremond Country Club for five years. Stanley retired in 1976. Mary Francis passed away in 1979. Stanley was united in marriage with Edythe V. Brooks in 1983 in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple made their home in Clarion. Stanley was a charter member of the Belmond VFW. He loved to hunt and fish.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Edythe, of Clarion; son, David Moe and his wife, Barbara, of Pekin, Ill.; stepson, Tim Brooks and his wife, Barbara, of Goldfield; stepdaughter, Penny Mericle and her husband, Craig, of Nora Springs; three grandchildren, John, Toni and Kelly; one great-granddaughter, Katlyn; six stepgrandchildren, Travis, Jon, Robyn, Michael, Hollie and Laina; brother, Bennett Moe and his wife, Francis, of Spring Valley, Calif.; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Francis; two stepchildren, Randy and Colleen Brooks; one sister, Elaine Overturf; and one nephew. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home of Belmond is in charge of arrangements.
