RENWICK - Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday at the United Methodist Church in Renwick, with the Rev. Karen Dearchs, officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Alan Lee Henriksen was born on July 15, 1943, at Jefferson, Iowa, to LaVerne and Alice (Studeman) Henriksen. He received his early education in Renwick, Iowa, graduating from the Boone Valley High School in 1961. Alan attended Jr. College in Eagle Grove, Iowa for two years, then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa for a time. Alan graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1967, with a B.A. Degree. He taught school in Rolfe, LuVerne and the Corwith-Wesley High School in Corwith. While in education, Alan was the chief negotiator for the LuVerne Education Association. After his father's death, Alan took over the family farm near Renwick and continued teaching for the next few years. Alan gave up teaching, but continued farming until his retirement. Alan was a member of the United Methodist Church in Renwick. He was the former President, Board Member and Secretary of the Boone Valley REC and was on the Board of Directors of the Gold Eagle Cooperative. Alan was also on the Wright County FSA Committee. Alan enjoyed farming, not only as an occupation, but as a hobby. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching the wildlife around the farm. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, especially the Cubs, Hawkeyes and Cyclones. He also enjoyed figuring the markets and making investments. Alan was very proud of all of his students and was very happy when they would come and visit, or see him on the street and tell him about their accomplishments. Alan died on Monday (June 9, 2003) at the Wright County Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 59.

Alan is survived by his sister, Janice Feustel, husband Mark, and their sons, Todd, Troy and Jonathan, of Mason City. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Bob Gunderson, of Fort Dodge; two nephews, Robbie Gunderson and wife, Robyn, and their children, Allyson, Laura, and Erik Gunderson; one niece, Stacy Gunderson and a special friend, Helen Townsend. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Judy Gunderson. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, (515) 824-3465.
