Ruby O. Knutson Lerdal, 89, of Belmond, died Thursday (July 25, 1996) at the Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold Funeral Home.

Ruby, daughter of Eric and Stella (Romseland) Knutson, was born on Friday, April 26, 1907, in Eagle Grove. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. She attended school in Eagle Grove. Ruby married Lloyd Lerdal on Aug. 26, 1926, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. They farmed near Goldfield and moved to a farm in Belmond in 1941. She and Lloyd operated the Standard Oil Station in Belmond from 1952 until they retired in 1973. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Gold Star Mother, Grandmother's Club and Trinity Lutheran Church circles. She was named ``Mother of the Year'' in 1983. She was well known for cooking and baking her kumla.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Lloyd, of Belmond; sons, Kenneth Lerdal of Thornton; Roland ``Bud'' Lerdal and his wife, Carol, of Berne, Ind., and Robert ``Bob'' Lerdal and his wife, Diane, of New London; daughters, Jan Meints and her husband, Glenn ``Moo,'' of Belmond, and Beverly Lande and her husband, Jim, of Sumner; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Richard, Roger and Tom; grandson, Alan Lee; great-granddaughter, Kimberly; daughter-in-law, Shirley; two sisters; and six brothers.
