Sylvia A. Harsh Passed away at Callahan Special Care Center on Sunday, November 12, 2006. She was born October 19, 1916 in Nemaha, Iowa to Miles B. Orton and Alida “ Mamie” Howe Orton of Ortonville, Iowa. Sylvia grew up in Ortonville and married Loren S. Harsh on May 12, 1935 in Eagleville, Missouri. In 1941 they moved to San Diego, California, with their daughter Patricia Ann and Son James L. Harsh. In 1948 they moved to Coquille, Oregon. Sylvia named the crest acres road which is now a populated area called crest acres. WM S. Harsh of North Bend was born to the Harsh’s in 1950. She will be remembered for her love of children and as a grandma who “ made the best pancakes and fried potatoes.” Sylvia loved her family and church, serving faithfully in the First Christian Church of Coquille. She was a Sunday school teacher, bible school superintendent, and held other offices in the church. She visited the sick and shut-ins for many years and made layette and quilts for newborns. She was also a cub scout den mother. Sylvia is predeceased by her husband, Loren S. Harsh in 1996, Son, James L. Harsh 1966, Parents, Brother, Four sisters & Two nephews. Living Relatives include Bill & April Harsh of North Bend, Oregon; Patricia & Rodney Dalton of Winchester, Oregon; Brother Miles Orton, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Sister, Sadie Buhr of Earlham, Iowa; Nine grandchildren; Eleven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren, ten nieces and three nephews. Five generations of family members recently celebrated her 90th birthday at Callahan Court. She had been a resident of Callahan Special Care Center since June of 2000. Services will held at Amling-Schroeder Funeral Service in Coquille, Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at 9:30 a.m.
