Gertrude S. Tranter, 86, died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home, Shoals, Indiana. Interment will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call tonight at the funeral home from 4 to 8. Memorial services will be tonight at the funeral home by Rebekkah Lodge at 6:30 and DAR service at 7.

She was born on July 7, 1911 in Wright County, Iowa to Walter and Opha (Sims) Porter. She married Harry Y. Tranter on Oct. 1, 1933 and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1987. Tranter worked at the Martin County Bank and was manager at the Martin County License Branch. She was also a member of the Shoals United Methodist Church, Humane Society, Eagles Auxiliary, election board, vice chairperson republican party, Who Who of Business Professionals, Martin County Alcohol Commission, Charter member of DAR Hindostan Chapter and 50 year member of Rebekkah Lodge. Surviving are two sisters, Lorene Helgevold, Stratford, Iowa and Mary Jane York, Terre Haute. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wm. Kenneth Porter.
