Alan Steenblock, 68, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Bishop Drumm Care Center, John- ston, where he resided. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be held at Franklin Township Cemetery, Santiago, IA. His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 1, at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home, with a vigil service beginning at 6 p.m.

Alan was born June 23, 1938, the son of Fannie and Pete Steenblock in Belmond, Iowa. On November 14, 1958 he was united in marriage to Dee Butler. They lived in Mitchellville for 47 years. As his Alzheimer's progressed, Alan moved to Bishop Drumm last November. Alan served in the US Army and was a member of The Moose Lodge in Newton and the Independent Order of Foresters. He retired from Lomar Foods after 23 years as a truck driver. He liked to dance, listen to country western music, travel and John Wayne. Alan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 47 years, Dee on February 13, 2005; and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, Gary (Jennifer) Steenblock of Des Moines; three grandsons, Zachary, Andrew and Nathan; nine brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews and their families. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Care Unit, Margery Court at Bishop Drumm.
