Howard “Shorty” Hilpipre, 90, of Webster City, formerly of Woolstock, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Gerald Caquelin officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Howard Lyle Hilpipre, son of Charles and Jessie Rapp Hilpipre, was born November 19, 1916 on a farm east of Woolstock. He received his education at the Peck Rural School near Woolstock. On February 22, 1941, he married Dorothy Margaret Smith in Webster City. The couple farmed near Iowa Falls until 1947, when they moved to Woolstock. He was owner operator of Hilpipre Tap until 1956. He then was employed by Woolstock Farmers Co-op until his retirement in 1980. Mrs. Hilpipre died April 28, 1991. He had been residing at Southfield Wellness Community since May of 2005.

Mr. Hilpipre is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Beth Hilpipre of Woolstock; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Melvin Seehase of Sumner; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, LaVonne Story of Woolstock, Letty Reisetter of Radcliffe, Mary Lou Diedrich of Osage; brother, Donald Hilpipre of Plainfield, WI.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by sons, Douglas, Rodney, and Leo Hilpipre; sisters, Mildred King and Vera Olson; brothers, Wayne, Alvin, Virgil, and Bernie Hilpipre and Charles Hilpipre, Jr. His memberships included, the Moose Lodge #735 of Webster City and the Woolstock Wild Bunch. He also served as fire chief for the Woolstock Fire Dept. and served on the Woolstock Mutual Telephone Council.
