Florence Lavina Jorgensen was born September 11, 1926, in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Oliver L. and Emma Faye (Prusia) Rasmussen. The family later moved to Iowa and Florence graduated from the Goldfield Community High School in 1944. After attending A.I.B. in Des Moines for a short time she went to Dayton, Ohio to work. She met and married Henry C. DuHamel. Two girls were born to them, Judy Elaine and Joyce Leah. They later divorced. In 1955, Florence was united in marriage with Lee Jorgensen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and made their home in Goldfield for nearly 50 years. They had two sons, Galen Dean and Gary Lee. Lee preceded her in death on August 5, 2005. She worked for many years in Goldfield as a secretary for Harlan Larson and the Goldfield School system. After major heart surgery in July of 2003, Florence resided in Rotary Ann Nursing Home, Eagle Grove then later the North Care Center in Humboldt. Florence has been in Hospice Care the last 30 days. She enjoyed reading the Bible every day, working in her flower garden, feeding and watching the birds, and quilting, which she did for each of her children. She was a member of the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield for many years.

Mrs. Jorgensen passed away on Monday, November 27, 2006, at the Humboldt Care Center North in Humboldt, at the age of 80 years. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; sister Shirley Matta and brother Floyd Rasmussen. Survivors include her children Judy Wilson and husband Robert of Eagle Grove, Joyce Messerly and husband James of Fort Dodge, Galen Jorgensen and wife Sheryl of Havelock and Gary Jorgensen and wife Pat of Moorland; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Grace Keeseler of Adel and Linda Zeka of Illinois and brother Orval Rasmussen and wife Patricia of Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 29, 2:00 p.m., at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield with Pastor Robert Dishman officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
