Mary Ann Irene Powell, 74, of Eagle Grove, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, December 27, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove. Father Chris Podhajsky officiated at the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Mary Ann Irene Powell was born on February 7, 1932 in DeWitt, Iowa, the daughter of Steven Henry and Veronica (Holtkamp) Umthun. She attended school in Clarion and Eagle Grove and graduated from the Ottumwa Heights Academy. On January 12, 1952, Mary Ann was united in marriage with Charles J. Powell at the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Chuck Powell of Eagle Grove, Richard A. Powell and wife, Michelle of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Kevin Powell and wife, Marcy of Davenport, Brian Powell and wife, Dawn of Falls Church, Virginia, Joe Powell and wife, Paula of Eagle Grove and Ann Shriver and husband, Henry of Eagle Grove; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Joe Umthun and wife, Betty, Virgil Umthun and wife, Rachel, Frank Umthun and wife, Mary Ann and Mark Umthun and wife, Doris; sisters, Dorene Hauer, Bernadette Jorgensen and Donna Culmer and husband, Steve; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Genroe Benton and Jane Umthun; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Powell.
