Evelyn Mae Watne, 85, of Belmond, died on Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 3, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Interment was in the Belmond Cemetery. Organist was Eldoris Bunnell and soloist was Marilyn Janssen. Casket bearers were, Mike Kolbeck, Jeff Watne, Rodney Halfpop, Mark Soma, Troy Watne, Jason McNertney and Jeremy Watne. Ushers were Al Charlson and Loren Bamford.

Evelyn Mae Case, the daughter of Floyd and Gladys Sumners Case, was born on August 24, 1918, in Clarion. She graduated from the Clarion High School in 1936 and then worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Clarion. On September 22, 1938, she married John Watne of Eagle Grove at Macon, Missouri. The couple owned a small restaurant in Bayard, Iowa until 1943. They later moved to the Clarion/Belmond area, where they farmed until retiring and moving to Clarion 1981. John died in 1981, and in 1988 Evelyn moved to Belmond. Evelyn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-granddaughter, Kenlee Uhlenhopp; sister, Genevieve; and brother, Bernard. She is survived by her seven children, Marcia (Earl) Kolbeck of Ashton, Jon (Betty) Watne of Clarion, Susan (Leland) Halfpop of Goodell, Phebe (Charles) Soma of Belmond, Ted (Barbara) Watne of Belmond, Norma (Jerry) McNertney of Ames and Craig (Connie) Watne of Belmond; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty nine great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Anne Case of Clarion.
