Jerry Duane Wilhite, 65, died on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the Belmond Medical Center, after a battle with kidney cancer. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, July 28, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Donna Kopriva was lector. Janyce Kluss was organist and Maxine Whitty was cantor. Honorary casket bearers were David Dunfee, David Riggs, Robert Wade, Stillman Wickert, Gilman Soma, Tom Christianson and Vic Fleener. Ushers were Hubert Kopriva and Harry Nelson. Interment was in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery near Belmond. Military rites were conducted by the Belmond Honor Guard.

Jerry Wilhite was born on December 8, 1938 in Corwith, to Evan and Geraldine Dunlap Wilhite. Jerry married Marjorie Zeimet on June 4, 1960 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. Jerry was drafted and served with the United States Army at Fort Carson, Colorado. After military service he took over management of his father's business, Evan's Lounge in Corwith. Jerry and Marj raised their son and two daughters in Corwith. They moved to Belmond in 1982 where Jerry managed the Belmond Country Club for 12 years. Then for several years he was the owner of Jerry's 2nd Chance in Belmond. He sold his business and began semi-retirement. He worked part time in the meat department at P&G in Belmond. Jerry was a true people person and had made many friends. He was a good cook, loved to play cribbage and poker, enjoyed gardening (especially his strawberry patch) and he loved to fish with Marj. Jerry collected elephants, iron wood, and oak crafts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Evan; and his step-father, Ray Stout. Jerry is survived by his wife of Belmond; son, Todd (Shelley) Wilhite of Altoona; daughters, Brenda (Brent) DeBerg of Bristow and Connie (Todd) Stewart of Royal; mother, Geraldine Stout of Belmond; brothers, Ted (Trish) Wilhite of Largo, Florida and Bill Wilhite of Tampa, Florida; grandsons, Joshua Wilhite, Nick, Steven and Michael DeBerg, Chance and Casey Stewart; and five sisters-in-law.
