Ellen R. Johnston, 76, of Belmond, died on Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 19, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with burial in the Alexander Cemetery.
Pastor Marvin Lorenz conducted the service. Casket-bearers were Michael Walrod, John Walrod, Don Suntken, Doug Suntken, Larry Suntken and Collin Steenhard.

Ellen Ruth, the daughter of Enno and Allie Schmidt Suntken, was born on April 26, 1928 in Franklin County. She grew up near Dows where she attended school. Ellen married Wallace F. Johnston in 1951. The couple lived in the Belmond, Alexander and Meservey areas. Ellen enjoyed crocheting afghans, cooking and baking. Her family fondly remembers when Ellen would bake pies. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Harold in 2003; brothers, Clarence and Marvin; and sister, Inez. Ellen is survived by her husband, Wally of Belmond; daughter, LaNae (Michael) Walrod of Latimer; son, Clarence of Holmes; daughter-in-law, Lelani Johnston of Goodell; grandchildren, Alex, Matthew, John, and Tammy; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Don (Marlene) Suntken of Belmond.
