Funeral services for Ethel Mae (McDonald) Ketchum, 94, were held on Friday, July 2, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Rev. Michael Druhl officiated. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery, Rowan. Music was provided by Dona Cleveland, organist and Inez Ketchum, soloist. Ushers were Mick Ketchum and Dan Ketchum. Casket bearers were her grand and great-grandchildren, Kathy Ketchum, Scott Ketchum, Charles Vestweber, Tim Vestweber, Travis Delzell, Dennis Vestweber, Sue Delzell, Joe Delzell and Danielle Delzell. Honorary bearers were Cory Ketchum, Barbara Pike, Pat Crafton, Linda Williams, Anna Lee Stone, Richard Ketchum, Bern Ketchum, Branden Vestweber, Doris Pepin, Lola Robinson, Renee Ketchum, Linda Nickerson, Robert Ketchum, Lionel McDonald, Nick Ketchum, Joan Regan, Ellen Sturges, Robin Ketchum, Del Shinneman, Sidney Ketchum and Gene Ketchum.

Ethel McDonald was born on February 6, 1910 in Cavalier County, North Dakota, the daughter of James Allen and Mabel (Woodrow) McDonald. She attended school in Sarles, North Dakota, where she graduated in 1928. Ethel attended teachers college in Valley City and taught in rural North Dakota for two years. Ethel married Jack E. Ketchum of Rowan on October 15, 1931. They farmed and raised their family in Grant Township near Belmond until 1969, when they retired and moved into town. Ethel was a life long homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She and Jack enjoyed traveling throughout the county and wintered in Arizona for several years. Ethel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond and the UMCW. For many years she was involved with the Rebekah Lodge and had served in various offices.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; infant son, Herbert Allen; sister, Evelyn; and brothers, Raymond (Bud) and Ward. Survivors include her son, Ronald L. (Marlys) Ketchum of Central Point, Oregon; daughter, Mary Jane (Garold) Vestweber of Belmond; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
