Ruth Jeannette Chapman, 87, of Hampton, formerly of Eagle Grove and Clarion, passed away Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 18th at the United Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Rev. Candace Adams officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.

Ruth Jeannette Sackett was born August 26, 1916, in Clarion, the daughter of Lloyd and Nora (Darland) Sackett. She was raised and educated in the Clarion area, attending country school and graduating from Clarion High School in 1934. On April 3,1937, Ruth was united in marriage to John J. Chapman in Wright County. To this union four children were born. After their marriage the couple settled on John’s family farm south of Clarion. Ruth lived there until 1970 and then moved to Eagle Grove. In 2000, Ruth moved to Hampton. Ruth worked at the grocery store and helped people in their homes. She enjoyed doing crafts, flowers and gardening. Ruth also helped raise livestock on the farm. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the KYN Club.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Jean and husband, Jerry of Hampton; sons, Stan Chapman and wife, Karen of Clarion; Eddie Chapman of Oregon; nine grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John J.; daughter, Dixie; two sisters, Eva Castleman and Fern Tourtelotte.
