Ross Claire Stanbery, 83, of Clarion, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004 at the USA Health Care Center, Clarion. Services were held Tuesday, March 9th at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.

Ross Claire Stanbery was born May 30, 1920, in Clarion, the son of Harry and Ruth (Campbell) Stanbery. He spent his entire life in Clarion and dedicated much of his life’s work to serving his community and fellow residents. He served as a Justice of the Peace in the 1950’s through 1970’s. He also owned a T.V. repair business that he operated from his home on East Central Avenue in Clarion. Ross was a Wright County landowner and frequented the local elevators to share some of his humor with his fellow farmers. He is a past Grand Marshal of Clarion’s Festival in the Park. Ross was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion. Ross was an honorary member of the American Legion and volunteered countless hours at the cemeteries constructing headstones for veterans. He is well know for his stone architecture that still adorns the entryways to the cemeteries. Ross was also an avid photographer and sports fan. He took thousands of wrestling photos and distributed them throughout the state of Iowa at no charge to the athletes or coaches. He earned numerous awards for his commitment to the sport of wrestling. Ross will be remembered for his generosity to the community and his devotion to helping others, especially young athletes who needed a guiding hand.

Ross is survived by one niece, Rebecca Black of Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill; and one sister, Harriet.
