Robert "Bob" E. Bowman, 79, of Whitesboro, Texas and a summer resident of Belmond, died on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at the Belmond Medical Center. A prayer service was held on Friday, October 10, at the Tenold-Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond, conducted by Rev. Michael Druhl of the Belmond United Methodist Church. Another service was held in Gordonville, Texas on Tuesday, October 14, with Pastor Randy Pemberton and Pastor Donald Darling officiating. Military honors were provided by the Whitesboro Veterans. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Whitesboro. Casket bearers were Scott Bowman, Dr. Robert Snow, John Emery, Steve Connor, Michael Branch and Sean Oitmen.

Robert Earl was born on May 10, 1924 in Des Moines, the son of Jesse and Edith (Holmes) Bowman. He graduated from the Woodside High School in Des Moines and served in the United States Navy during WW II. He was a PBM Bomber Pilot and attained the rank of Lt. JG. He married Lola Nelson, on October 24, 1946 at Des Moines. They lived in the Des Moines area where Bob was employed by John Deere as a quality control supervisor for 30 years. Bob was a member of the UAW #450, a member of the Northside Saylor Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Highland Park Masonic Lodge where he was a 32rd degree Mason. Bob loved tractors and the world of agriculture, and he attended various farm shows. He and Lola raised Jack Russell Terriers for many years. Bob enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren, raising farm animals, gardening and airplanes. The last 14 years Bob and Lola lived most of the year in Whitesboro and spent a few months each summer in Belmond.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph and Roy; and sister, Maxine Witt. Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years; daughters, Pauline (John) Emergy of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Carolyn Jo (Robert) Snow of Whitesboro; son, Scott (Sue) Bowman of Des Moines; daughters, Laura (Michael) Branch of Gainesville, Texas and Stacey (Lloyd) Edmisten of Whitesboro; sisters, Martha Patterson of Des Moines and JoAnn Thomas of Kennesaw, Georgia; brother, Jim Bowman of Des Moines; sisters, Jane Bowman of Des Moines, Velma Davis of Ankeny, Thelma Moore of Mesa, Arizona and Mary Francis Blife of Val Rico, Florida; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
