Paula Kain, 60, died on Monday, September 8, 2003, at her home in Iowa City. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 12, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly. Rev. James Carpenter officiated and vocalists were Kathy Carpenter and Harlan Gillespie. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery near Cedar Falls.
Paula was born on January 10, 1943 in Lake Park, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Alva Anna (Puck) Schwarzenbach. She received her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and taught elementary school in Belmond for 19 years. Recently she endowed the National Patient Advocacy Office in Des Moines.
Paula was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Lyle Schwarzenbach. She is survived by her sons, James (Laura) Kain, Jr. of Iowa City, Brad (Penny) Kain of Eldridge and Matthew (Diana) Kain of Riverside; four grandchildren; her mother, Alva Schwarzenbach of Iowa City; brothers, Everett (Patty) Schwarzenbach of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey and Dan Schwarzenbach of Bristol, Connecticut; sister, Pauline (Keith) Branstetter of Iowa City; and sister-in-law, Arlene Schwarzenbach of Cedar Falls.
