Shirlie Carol Swenson Eide, 87, of Belmond, died on Saturday, May 10, 2003, at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 13, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Shirlie, the daughter of Swen and Ellen Wilson Swenson, was born on the family farm on April 13, 1916. She grew up on the farm near Kanawha, where she attended school. Shirlie married Helge Eide on May 30, 1935 in Belmond, where they lived for two years. Then they moved west of town to Olaf, where they started a turkey business along with a grocery store and service station. Shirlie's greatest joys were cooking, baking, watching people enjoy their meals, and children. Shirlie had a green thumb and always had many beautiful plants in her home.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Helge; and brothers, Silas (who died as a young boy), William and Melvin. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Patton; grandchildren, Richard (Joyce) Welsh and their children, Eric, Dannielle, and Joseph; Dennis Welsh and son, Ryan; David (JoAnn) Welsh and their children, Travis and Lisa; and Valerie Hayes and her children, Bobby and Alexandria; sister, Ellen Suntken of Belmond; and sister-in-law, Sadie Swenson of Belmond.
