Josephine Louise Mariga, 93, of Belmond, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 7, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond.
Josephine Louise, was born on November 11, 1909 in Hubbard, to Chas. and Grace Ann Brown Mossman. She was the third of seven children. In 1910 the family moved to Iowa Falls and in 1920 to Rowan. Josephine graduated from the Rowan High School in 1927. She married James Mariga on September 25, 1928, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion. To this union two children were born, James E. and Barbara. In 1938 the family moved to Belmond. Jo enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Jim and Jo were members of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Belmond since 1938, where both have been active over the years.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (July 2002); three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include son, James E. Mariga of Belmond; daughter, Barbara (Fred) Mariga Schiek of Des Moines; grandchildren, Mary Jo (Scott) Schiek Youngberg of Cedar Rapids and Patricia Schiek of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Heather, Justin and Amanda Youngberg; sister, Gladys Bell of Gilliam, Missouri; and brother, Dean (Loretta) Mossman of Surprise, Arizona.
