Wallace F. Johnston, 83, of Belmond, died on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the USA Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 9, at 1:30 p.m., at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with Pastor Marv Lornez officiating. Interment was in the Alexander Cemetery. Casket bearers were Allen Warwick, John Walrod, Michael Walrod, Larry Suntken, Doug Suntken and Roger Robb.

Wallace, the son of Harold F. and Marie Shine Johnston, was born on May 3, 1921 in Brooklyn, Iowa. He grew up in the Brooklyn area. Wallace married Ellen Suntken in 1951. They made their home in the north central Iowa area. Trucking was the work of his life, and it was an occupation he loved. Wally retired trucking from National Bi-Products in Belmond. He enjoyed tinkering on cars and playing "Mr. Fixit." Wally was a devoted husband to his wife and was a member of the Teamsters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in July 2004; son, Harold in 2003; and a sister. Wally is survived by his son, Clarence of Holmes; daughter, LaNae (Mike) Walrod of Latimer; daughter-in-law, Lelani of Belmond; grandchildren, Misty, John, Tammy, Alex, Matt and Annie; great-grandchildren, Corey, Blake and Matthew; and sisters, Elizabeth Graham of California and Ruth Harris of Washington.
