Leslie D. Gruis, 55, of Meservey, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 5, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City. Leslie Dee was born on June 8, 1949 in Mason City. He was adopted by Marie (Albers) Gruis in 1961. He graduated from Meservey-Thornton, Grand View College, and the University of Iowa. He worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Les moved to Seattle, Washington in 1970 and returned to Iowa in 1992. He was employed by True Value Hardware in Belmond. Leslie enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, lawn care, Yahtzee, Uno, studying military history, toy tractors, and attending toy shows.

Leslie was preceded in death by his mother, Marie; and brother, Neal. He is survived by his sisters, Wanda Harrell of Omaha, Nebraska, Betty Fay of Lenox, Marlie Meyer of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Dori Alley of Glenwood and twin sister, Jessie Sage of Mason City; and brother, Jim Richey of San Diego, California.
