Fonda Mae Pals, 75, died January 6, 2006 at the Belmond Medical Center. Services were held January 9 at First Reformed Church in with Meservey with Pastor Rodney Meester officiating. Interment was in the Meservey Cemetery. Janet Pals was organist and Marilyn Janssen was soloist. Honorary casketbearers were Dennis, Kenneth and Rodney Hill. Casketbearers were Derald Pals, Doug Barkema, Rick Martin, Bart Pals, DuWayne Barkema and Delwin Barkema. Fonda, the daughter of Edward and Minnie Ammerman Martin, was born July 26, 1930 in the Rowan area. She graduated from Rowan High School and worked at the Ben Franklin store in Clarion for many years until she married Harvey Pals in 1967. Fonda had numerous hobbies, including quilting, crafts, going to garage sales and auctions, and visiting antique shops. She was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church.
Fonda was a very caring person as demonstrated by her care for Harvey during his long illness. She was optimistic during the past 14 months as she endured various medical problems. Her sense of humor will be remembered. Thanks to the creativity of the Belmond hospital staff, she played the part of the Statue of Liberty in the July 4th parade when the nurses incorporated her "neck brace and halo" into a costume.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2003; and brother Gerold Martin. Fonda is survived by her stepdaughter Iva Jeanne (Erwin) Hill of Albert Lea, MN; sisters Shirley Olson, Barbara Range and Joyce Entgelmeier; grandchildren Dennis, Kenneth and Rodney Hill; and great-grandchildren Elliott, Cameren, Sydnee and Brady Hill.
