Edward Roland Reasoner, 90, Belmond died July 15, 2006 at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond with Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery with military honors.

Edward, the son of James and Alice Wright Reasoner, was born April 10, 1916 in Dows. He attended school in Dows until the 4th grade and went to school in Rowan where he graduated. He continued his education at Oregon Institute Portland Technology for a year. Ed married Beulah Gabrielson of Belmond on October 18, 1941 in Omaha. He served during World War II in the South Pacific. As a Sergeant Technician, Ed was a member of the 13th Jungle Air Force. They were presented with a Presidential Citation for shooting down Japanese Admiral Osoroku Yamamoto and his staff, the planner of the attack on Pearl Harbor. This took place on April 18, 1943. Ed was also presented a Personal Citation from General George C. Kenney for special duty as a radio operator for radar air warning deep behind the enemy lines for two months. After returning from the war, Ed and Beulah made their home in Belmond where he worked as a conductor for the Northwestern Railroad until 1950. He then worked At the Belmond power plant until 1978 when he retired. Ed was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He helped build the church and served as president and vice president. He was a high school sponsor for ten years and enjoyed boating.

He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. Ed is survived by his wife; daughter Ann Koss of Oklahoma City; son John (Marilee) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Eric (Kelli), Aaron (Maya), Josh (Erin), Ryan (Shauna) and Gabe; great grandchildren, Lakan, Tanner, Riley, Megan, Grace, C.J., Hunter, Jack, Ethan, Ella and Jackson; and sister Opal Downey of Farmington, MN.
