Florence Simpson, 82, died July 19, 2006 at her home in Rowan. A memorial service was held July 22 at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond. Florence Elaine, the daughter of Henry and Bessie Birdsell Amundson, was born June 24, 1924 in Estherville. She graduated from Estherville High School. She married George Simpson on July 3, 1943. They farmed near Terrill and then in the Belmond and Rowan area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Jim Stroud, and brother-in-law Ron Ressler. Survivors include her husband; children Donna Nelson of Denver, CO, Bonnie Stroud of Cherryville, NC; and twins Lavonne Reed of Mason City and Les Simpson of Rowan; sister-in-law Mary Ressler of Beech Island, SC; and grandchildren Jackie (Mark) Loats of Belmond, Erik Nelson of Atlanta, and Kristin (Damian) Dorrance of Denver.
