Leo R. Ellingston, 77, of Belmond died November 4, 2006 at his home. Funeral services were held November 6 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church west of Belmond with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the St. Olaf Cemetery. Leo Robert, the son of Elling and Nettie (Ulstad) Ellingston was born April 4, 1929 west of Belmond. He grew up in the St. Olaf area and graduated from Belmond High School in 1947. After high school Leo began farming. In 1951 he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Leo married Opal Bogan December 7, 1974 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple lived in the Belmond area where they farmed. Leo retired in 1992. Leo is remembered as a meticulous farmer who treasured the times he spent with his grandchildren. He was a life-long member of St. Olaf where he was baptized and confirmed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters Maxine, Virgil and Bernice. Survivors include his wife; children Curtis (Louie) Bogan of Fort Worth, TX; Bryan (Kathy) Bogan of Arlington, TX; Marna Bogan of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren Irene, Robert, Regina, Brenda, Bethney; great grandchild, Madeline Jo; brother Raymond (Rebecca) Ellingston of Belmond; sisters Eunice (Lloyd) Christenson of Belmond and Avis Hopkey of Belmond.
