Leslie G. Classick died of heart failure October 6, 2006 at his home in Logan, UT. The body was cremated and inurnment will be in the Louisville, CO cemetery. Les was born April 17, 1928 in Hurley, SD, the son of Harold John and Jenny Classick. The family moved to Belmond when Les was in high school, and he graduated with the class of 1946. He received a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in 1950, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 1958, and a post-doctorate degree in veterinary microbiology and preventative medicine from Iowa State University in 1971. He taught high school biology and science, he was a veterinarian in Belmond, was a research veterinarian at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, was an assistant professor at Iowa State University, was an industrial veterinarian in research, and worked as a veterinary consultant. He was a member of five honorary fraternities in the fields of education, biological science, agriculture, veterinary medicine, and all college.

He married Charlotte Marie Christiansen on August 20, 1950. She died in 1985. He married Dottie Jean Colby on June 30, 1988. Les was a member of the Congregational Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as an instructor at the quartermaster school at Ft. Lee, VA. He was very active in sports as a young man and enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren in his later years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Harold. He is survived by his wife Dottie; sons Nic of Parker, CO, Harold and Craig of Arvada, CO, and Charles of Springfield, MO; and nine grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the Belmond-Klemme Scholarship Fund, 411 10th Avenue NE, or the Belmond Fire Department, 112 Second Ave NE.
