Raymond Lee Ansel, 70, of Clarion, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center, Mason City. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 28, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion. Fr. Chris Podhajsky officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in the St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Clarion.

Raymond Lee Ansel, was born on June 22, 1936 at Oak Park, Illinois, the son of George and Wilda (Phillips) Ansel. He received his education at the Oak Park School. On May 4, 1957, Ray was united in marriage to Barbara Andorf at Elmhurst, Illinois. The couple made their home in the area. In 1961, the family moved to Kanawha. The couple owned and operated the Farmers Club and later had the distributorship of a Marigold Milk Route. In 1999, the couple moved to Clarion and have lived here since. Ray's life centered around his family and grandchildren and the special times they spent together canoeing in the boundary waters. He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion, where he served on the Parish Council. He served as a member of the Kanawha City Council while they lived in Kanawha and was a 36-year member of the Kanawha Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara of Clarion; two daughters, Betsy Mraz and husband, Lynn of Clarion and Laurie Schreur and husband, Herbert; two sons, Joseph Ansel and Mark Ansel and wife, Meridee; three granddaughters; seven grandsons; three step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael; three sisters, Betty, Vivian and Muriel; and one brother, Bill.
