Gerald (Jerry) Christensen, age 65, of Popejoy, died on Friday, August 04, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with burial in Northlawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before services on Tuesday. Gerald (Jerry) Christensen was born August 21, 1940 at Dows, IA. the son of Henry and Georgia (Steenblock) Christensen. Jerry's father died in an accident when he was 7 and his mother was unable to care for him so his grandparents, Andrew and Clara Christensen raised him. He was confirmed at the Dows Lutheran Church. He graduated from Oakland Township High School with class of 1958 and from Hamiltons Business College in Mason City in 1960. Jerry moved back to the Iowa Falls area and went to work for Ray Christensen and later moved to Burdette in 1970. Ray retired in 1984 and Jerry and John Andersen formed Jere-Bear Construction until 1996 when he then started working on his own until he retired. Though he did regular construction Jerry was better known for his finish work. He was very artistic with his cabinets and could make steel look like wood. Jerry was an avid bowler for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, needle-point, crocheting and gardening with a special love for flower gardens. He helped with Special Olympics and had donated his bowling trophy's to the Work Activity Center in Iowa Falls to be used for their bowling program. In 2001 Jerry moved to Popejoy where he lived with his aunt, Alma.
Survivors include his aunts, Alma McElvania and Velma Fuller both of Popejoy; uncles, Raymond Christensen of Iowa Falls, LaVerne Christensen of Popejoy and Andrew Christensen, Jr. of Anthem, AZ.; many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Andrew and Clara Christensen; aunts, Merna Christensen and Cora Shaw; uncle, Franklin Christensen.
