JOHANNA “JO” DEN HARTOG, 90, of Sheldon, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Northwest Iowa Health Center, Sheldon. Born July 14, 1916, in Newkirk, Iowa, she was the daughter of Henry and Anna Marie Scholten Langstraat. She married Lawrence Den Hartog Nov. 28, 1935. He died Oct. 30, 1997. She graduated in 1934 from Newkirk High School. After marriage, they lived in the Iowa cities of Waterloo, Clarion, Eagle Grove and Webster City, where Lawrence managed airports, and she assisted him in fueling planes and taking phone calls. They moved to Sheldon in 1972. She became a resident of the Christian Retirement Home in 1999 and moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in 2003. She was a member of Sheldon United Methodist Church and its Hannah Circle and former member of the Merry-Go-Around Club.

Surviving are one brother, Herman Langstraat, Orange City, Iowa; and two sisters, Anna Rensink, Sheldon, and Nellie Langstraat, Des Moines, Iowa. The service will be 10:30 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Sheldon, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon. Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Sheldon, is in charge of the arrangements.
