Gwendola "Gwen" M. Hopkey, 88, of 611 N. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at her home in Clear Lake. Due to her wishes, she will be cremated and private inurnment will be held in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Gwen M. Hopkey Memorial Fund. Gwen was born Sept. 16, 1916 in Wayne, Neb. the daughter of William James and Mabel (Loncer) Olson. She attended school in Rowan, Iowa. Gwen married Gaehart Hopkey in 1935 in Webster City, Iowa. They farmed in the Alexander, Iowa area. They bought a summer home in Clear Lake in 1968 and retired from farming in the late 1970's and moved to Clear Lake. She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm and was known for her wonderful cooking. Gwen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Eckman and her husband, Jerry, Wichita, Kan.; son-in-law, Gene Collins, Ames, Iowa; two grandchildren, Harlan Baker, Thornton, Iowa and Laynette Lumley and her husband, Wayne, Collins, Kan.; sister-in-law, Carole Olson, Clear Lake, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Collins; and four brothers, Dyke, Dale, Victor and Bill Olson. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
