Valerie Lane (Larson) Kittell, 56, of Bremerton died due to complications from lupus Nov. 12, 2001, in Bremerton. She was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Belmond, Iowa, to Robert and Marjorie (Loats) Larson. She graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton, Iowa, in 1963 and Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls in 1965. She also attended the University of Northern Iowa. She married John F. Kittell on July 1, 1967, in Dows, Iowa. He resides in Bremerton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts. She participated in the bell choir at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church, where she was a member.

Survivors include her husband; her parents of Dows; two sons, Robert of Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., and John of Bellevue; and a sister, Polly Eide of Cedar Falls, Iowa. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church.
