RAYMOND W. HAGIE -- Clarion
State Senator, Raymond W. Hagie, 96, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. A Memorial service will be held Friday, October 27, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Clarion. A visitation will be held Friday, October 27, 2006 one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Raymond W. Hagie was born February 1, 1910 the son of William J. and Minnie Hagie. He attended Dayton township schools, Clarion High School and graduated from Iowa State College. Ray was the founder of Hagie's Hybrids seed corn company, Hagie Manufacturing Company and Hagie Farms. He served in the Iowa Legislature as a Representative and Senator and directed Ronald Reagan's Iowa Campaign in 1976 and 1980. He was an active member of the Iowa Manufacturers Association and served on the Board of Directors and as the Chairman. Ray supported Iowa State University in many ways and served on the Athletic council, was a member of the Board of Governors and was honored as Cyclone's Favorite Alum.He is survived by June, his wife of 71 years, son John of Clarion, daughter Margaret Severino of Des Moines and son-in-law Ted West of Chicago; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathie West; two brothers; and one sister.
