BELMOND - Funeral services for Gladys (Swenson) Thompson, 92, of Belmond, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with Pastor Jim Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Church. The family requests that memorials be made to the Wright County Hospice.

Gladys (Swenson) Thompson, the daughter of Wincenta and Mary (Finn) Dziewanowski, was born on July 10, 1906, in Belmond. She attended and graduated from Belmond High School. On July 7, 1927, Gladys was united in marriage to Sid Swenson in Belmond. Four children were born to this union, Joan, Sid, Annette and David. The couple enjoyed working together, and they took care of Sid's parents until their deaths. Sid passed away in August 1964. Gladys was married to Glen Thompson on June 8, 1973, in Belmond. The two of them enjoyed traveling together from time to time. Gladys also loved to cook for her family and she liked to keep busy sewing. While living in Belmond, she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. Gladys died on Tuesday (July 6, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Sid Swenson and his wife, Mary Jo, of Belmond, and David Swenson and his wife, Janelle, of Fergus Falls, Minn.; daughter, Joan Carson and her husband, Jean, of Buda, Texas; two stepdaughters, Vicki VanDonselaar and her husband, Paul, of Brea, Calif., and Glenda Jarvis and her husband, Roger, of Bear Creek, Wis.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Nita Fuchs and her husband, John, of Ahwahnee, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sid Swenson; second husband, Glen Thompson; daughter, Annette; stepson, Tony; an infant brother, William; and a brother, Tom Dziewanowski.
