GOLDFIELD - Arthur L. Jewell, 80, died Friday (May 7, 1999) at USA Health Care of Fort Dodge after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Goldfield, with the Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, with military rites by the American Legion Post No. 370, Goldfield. Visitation with the family present will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.

Arthur Le Roy Jewell was born on Jan. 25, 1919, in Norfolk, Neb., to Merrill and May (Schoonover) Jewell. He graduated from Concord High School, Concord, Neb., in 1938. Arthur served his country during World War II in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He was united in marriage with Ila B. Harder on Dec. 13, 1942, at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Omaha, Neb. The couple lived in the Thor-Hardy area for six years before moving to the Goldfield area, where they farmed for 36 years. They moved into Goldfield in 1982. Ila preceded Arthur in death on Nov. 8, 1986. Arthur was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield, where he was very active serving in offices and as an usher. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post No. 370, Goldfield, serving in various offices and as Commander. Arthur was a former member of the Wright County Farm Bureau.

Arthur is survived by his son, James Jewell and his wife, Kathy, of Goldfield; two daughters, Nancy Willett and her husband, Gary, of Fort Dodge, and Donna Wentworth-Jewell of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Vic Jewell, Mark Jewell, Patricia Hardcastle, Kirk Willett, Brett Willett, Brook Wentworth, Amanda Wentworth and Derek Wentworth; four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Madison and Paige Jewell and Aaron Hardcastle; and two sisters, Helen Peterson of Humboldt and Beverly Bayne of Meadow Grove, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ila, three brothers, Clyde, Garold and Max; and an infant grandson, Mark Willett. Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove.
