Funeral services for Donavon "Don" Darland were held Thursday, August 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Rev. Chris Podhajsky officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Don Darland died Sunday, August 6, 2006 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Donavon Ray Darland was born April 15, 1970 in Clarion. He attended school in Goldfield and graduated from Clarion-Goldfield High School in 1988. He attended Grandview College in Des Moines on a golf scholarship. On November 14, 1998, he was united in marriage to Kelly Farrell in Webster City. Kelly, her son Reese and Don established their home in Clarion. Over the next few years, the couple had two sons. They continued to live in Clarion. Don was employed as a machinist at Sauer-Danfoss, Inc. in Ames. His family was the most important thing in his life. He loved coaching and teaching his boys, playing various sports including baseball, golf and co-ed softball. Don was an avid sports fan and coached and refereed many sporting events.

Surviving are his wife, Kelly of Clarion; sons Reese Morris, Ryan Darland and Rhett Darland, all at home; parents Doug and Linda (Peterson) Darland of Clarion; brother Doug and his wife Desiree of Randall; grandmothers Verla Darland of Goldfield and Mary Peterson of Eagle Grove; many aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Virgil Darland and Charles Peterson.
