Memorial service for Berenice Gates, 92, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Mrs. Gates, a 12-year resident of Spokane, died Monday. She was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She worked as an insurance underwriter for the Motor Vehicle Casualty Company in Elmhurst, Ill., for 25 years. Mrs. Gates lived in Elmhurst for 32 years and later lived in Mountain Home, Ark., for 11 years before coming to Spokane. She was a member of the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. While living in Elmhurst she had been a member of the First Baptist Church.

Her husband, Cyrus, died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Laurence Gates of Sunnyvale, Calif.; a sister, Wilma Duer of Spokane; and two grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
