Gorden R. Fisher, 72, of Delmont, New Jersey died Friday morning in Shore Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Eagle Grove, Iowa he was the son of the late Roy and Mary Martin Fisher. He resided in Heislerville for 10 years and had been a Delmont resident the past 42 years. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served as a Radio Gunner. He married his wife of 52 years Elizabeth Ceola Whilden while stationed at the Wildwood Naval Air Station. He worked at Airwork Corp. in Millville, and then worked as a Corrections Officer at Leesburg Prison. He retired in 1979 obtaining the rank of Lieutenant. He then worked at the Millville Senior High School as a Security Guard for 11 years retiring there in 1993. He was a Boy Scout Leader, he served as Welfare Director for Maurice River Township for 20 years, and was a member for several years on the Maurice River Township Board of Education. He was a member of the Delmont United Methodist Church were he was a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Delmont Fire Company.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Ceola Whilden Fisher, two sons; Gorden R. Fisher of Delmont, Gregory R. Fisher of Brookfield, MA, four daughters; Cheryle Jean Eisele of Petersburg, Amber M. Fisher of Sheldon, VT, Beth S. Goff of Woodbine, and Annette Green of Dividing Creek, nine grandchildren; Melissa Kaplan, Ian & Jason Fisher, Elizabeth & Katrina Brown, Zachary & Jillian Fisher, Kimberly Green, William J. Eisele III, one great grandson; William J. Eisele, IV, four brothers; Burton & Roy Fisher of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Gary of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Paul of Tampa, FL, three sisters; Doreen Myers of Fredricksburg, VA, Racheal Carpenter of Atlanta, GA, Gloria Rubendall of Burleson, TX. He was predeceased by a brother Everette Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at the Delmont United Methodist Church, Rt. 47, Delmont, on Tuesday at 1:30 PM. Interment will be in Leesburg Cemetery. Viewing will be held Monday from 7:00-9:00PM at the Hoffman Funeral Homes, 643 Main St., Leesburg, and Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 at the church.
