Richard J. Stadtlander, age 57, of Belmond, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2006). A celebration of life for Richard Stadtlander will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 10, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Mike Druhl will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Richard J. Stadtlander will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church.

Richard Jerry, the son of Alfred C. and LaVonne (Mason) Stadtlander, was born April 15, 1949, in Belmond. He grew up in Belmond where he attended schools. While at Belmond High School, Rich played football all four years and never lost a game. His senior year, Rich played quarterback. Rich graduated from Belmond High School in 1967. After high school, Rich attended Mason City Junior College and Upper Iowa University, where he also played football. After college, Rich began working for Frank Pollitt at Super America and doing construction. He later drove truck as a delivery man. Rich started working for Iowa Electric power and later IES Utility. He was currently working as a gas technician for a utility company. Rich married Carolyn McLaughlin in 1975. Rich enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a collector of old cars and old tractors. Rich was known as "Uncle Buck" to all of his nieces and nephews. He very much cherished his time spent with family and friends. He loved all sports, especially football. Rich was a true Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. Rich was a member of Belmond Trees Forever and the Belmond Area Arts Council. He volunteered many hours to both organizations.

Rich is survived by his brothers and sisters, Tom and wife, Karen, of Belmond, Larry and wife, Pat, of Oak Harbor, Wash., Robert and wife, Judie, of Iowa City, Janet Hennigar and husband, Denny, of Clarion, Jerry and wife, Phyllis, of Waukee, Marilyn TerHark and husband, John, of Independence; 14 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.
