Adam Peter Just, Former Iowa resident, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 22, 2001, in Tucson, Arizona. Adam Peter Just was born in Belmond, Iowa to Jacob and Francis (Bascal) Just on May 10, 1921. Adam grew up on the farm of his parents and completed his schooling in Iowa. He proudly served his country for three years in World War II at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., in North Africa and Italy. He married Anne Timmerman on May 31, 1949. As a young man Adam pitched for several local softball teams and was a great basketball and baseball fan. As a member of the Big Band and jitterbug generation, there were many fond memories of dancing trips to town , the Surf ballroom and local street dances. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. His favorite fishing hole was at Six Mile Lake in Bena, Minnesota. Adam was employed for many years as a construction superintendent for Mulford Construction Company and Kirk Gross Company in Iowa. He was a mason by trade and also worked extensively as a carpenter. Adam left many architectural landmarks in and around the state of Iowa. He received numerous awards for his work and was well known as a true master of his trade. Adam is survived by his wife, Anne ; daughter Jamie (Brien); son, Rob (Diane) ;four grandchildren; one brother, and one sister. He was preceded in death by one son, Tim, his parents, two brothers, four sisters, and a baby brother who died in infancy. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Rockwell. A memorial mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church will honor him at a date to be announced. Adam cherished his healthy and happy grandchildren. He spent many loving hours teaching them how to bait a hook, ride a bike, plant a garden, fly a kite, and soar in the old tire swing. It is in Grandpa's name that the family asks any contributions be made to the Steele Memorial Children's Research Center, University of Arizona, 1501 N. Campbell, P.O. Box 245073, Tucson, AZ 85724.
