2/23/2006Funeral services for Orville R. Strohman of Forest City, Iowa, formerly of Lakefield, were held Feb. 18, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley, Minn., with Rev. Gerald Gauthier II officiating. Burial was in the Sioux Valley Cemetery. Orville Strohman died Feb. 13, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, Iowa. Casket bearers were Jeremy Strohman, Terry Schroeder, Mark Haverly, Tanner Brunsvold, Steven Hartman and Kevin Dillon. Shirley Finnern provided the music for the service. The Hansen Funeral Home of Lakefield handled the funeral arrangements.
Orville Russell Strohman, son of Peter and Myrtle (Miller) Peterson, was born on Jan. 22, 1922, in Clay County, Iowa. At the age of two, Orville was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Jerry and Olive Strohman. He grew up on the family farm in Sioux Valley Township, Jackson County and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley on June 23, 1940. Orville graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1941. He married Eva Hartman on Dec. 12, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the farm for 44 years before moving into Lakefield, where they lived for 16 years. On June 1, 2003, they moved into assisted living in Forest City, Iowa, and this past December, moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. Orville was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley and taught Sunday school. He enjoyed farming, dart ball, horseshoes and playing cards.
Orville is survived by his wife Eva Strohman of Forest City, Iowa; a daughter, Joyce and her husband Grant Russell of Fertile, Iowa; three sons, Ken and his wife June Strohman of Fertile, Russell Strohman of Dunnell, Minn., Darrell and his wife, Patricia Strohman of Chandler, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Jody Schroeder, Jackie Brunsvold, Tammy Andrews, Cinda Lyons, Sheila Stevens, Nicole Smith, Jeremy Strohman, Shawn Strohman; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed and his wife, Merlene Peterson of Eagle Grove, Iowa; a sister, Bernice Rogers of Davenport, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Mary Peterson of Eagle Grove. Orville was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Peterson; a sister, Illa Miller; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma (Strohman) and John Jacobson and Florence (Strohman) and Ernest Wulf.
