Neal M. "Barney" Schoonover, 83, of 2501 Townhouse Dr. NE, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha, by the Rev. Daniel Krueger. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and at the church after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Judy Vincent of Hiawatha; three brothers, Walter of Waterloo, Ray and wife Maxine of Cedar Rapids, and Lawrence and wife Vera of Coarsegold, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Sara.

Neal was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Dows, Iowa, to Harry and Amy Harrison Schoonover. He married Dorothy Maurer on Jan. 26, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. He was a truck driver for Teamsters Local 238 for many years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha and a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
