Lawrence William Hamilton, 85, of Hampton, Iowa, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa.Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Morgan United Methodist Church in Dows, Iowa, with the Revs. David Gobeli, Keith Scott and Steve Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Maynes Grove Cemetery in Bradford, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, Iowa.

Mr. Hamilton was born Jan. 18, 1914, in Franklin County, Iowa, to John Hamilton and Nettie Winans. He married Leah Scott on Aug. 22, 1938, in Marion, Iowa, and she survives.He was the Iowa Falls High School state wrestling champion in 1932 and was team captain of the wrestling team for Iowa State College in 1937. He was a farmer and a member of the Franklin Agriculture Forum, Franklin County Board of Education, the Farm Bureau, Farm House Fraternity and Franklin County Zoning Board. In 1984, he received the Iowa State Alumni Special Service Award from Franklin County. He also received the Franklin County owner/tenant soil conservation award. He was a member of the Morgan United Methodist Church in Dows, Iowa.

Survivors also include four sons, Larry Hamilton of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jay Hamilton of Iowa Falls, Iowa, John Hamilton of Hampton, Iowa, and Steven Hamilton of Laramie, Wyo.; a daughter, Ardith Kirchhoff of Columbia; one sister, Lucille Claassen of Wellsburg, Iowa; a stepsister, Betty Bryan of McAllen, Texas; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, a brother, one stepbrother and a grandchild.
