Frank H. Beinhauer 91, of Decatur died Wednesday (Dec. 3, 1997) in Decatur Memorial Hospital. Private services will be in Graceland/ Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Diabetes Association or Dakota Indian Foundation.

Mr. Beinhauer was born in Dows, Iowa, on April 25, 1906, the son of Louis and Martha Olson Beinhauer. He was a retired civil engineer from J.L. Simmons Co., where he was senior vice-president and chief engineer. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Illinois. Mr. Beinhauer was affiliated with the American Society of Engineers, American Institute of Plant Engineers, American Concrete Institute, Consulting Contractors Council of America and the American Society of Concrete Constructors. He was a member of General Contractors Association and was past chairman of the executive board. He was the recipient of the University of Illinois Loyalty Award and the Alex Van Pragg Jr. Award given by the Central Illinois Chapter of Professional Engineers. He co-authored ''Manuel of Standard Practice for Detailing Reinforced Concrete Structures.''

Surviving are his daughter, Marilyn Darnall Strueber of Oak Brook; grandson, Steven Darnall of Chicago; granddaughter, Kris Darnall Suman and great-grandson, Martin Suman of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marie, sister, Myrtle, and brother, Glenn. Mr. Beinhauer was a very important man in the construction industry. He has testimonials standing all over the state of Illinois and the country. He has been a good friend and mentor to many young and upcoming engineers. His professionalism and honesty will be greatly missed.
