Orville I. Thompson Devry Technical Institute President

HANOVER - Orville I. Thompson, 87, of 710 Blooming Grove Road, Hanover, died at 5:40 a.m. Sunday at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Tessmann) Thompson, to whom he was married for 61 years. Following cremation, a memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover. There will be no viewing.

Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 17, 1909, in Holmes, Iowa. He was the son of the late Lewis H. and Nellie M. (Stroup) Thompson. He was a graduate of and worked for DeVry Technical Institute of Chicago, serving as president and retiring in 1969 after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover. He was former president and member of the board of directors of the National Electronics Conference and served on National Home Study Council of Electronics Education.

Mr. Thompson also is survived by two sons, James P. Thompson and Michael L. Thompson, both of Hanover; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 York St., Hanover 17331.
