RENWICK — Donald Arthur Palmer, 90, of Renwick, died Monday (March 7, 2005) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City after a short illness. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, 610 Kelling St. in Renwick, with the Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Renwick with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Harvey-McPeak Post 289, Renwick. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Renwick with a masonic service beginning at 7 p.m.

Donald was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Renwick, son of Stephen and Augusta (Thompson) Palmer. He graduated from Renwick High School in 1934. After graduation, Donald went to work for the Rural Electrification Agency and helped bring electric power to Wright County. In September 1939, Donald married Geraldine Williamson of Eagle Grove. During World War II, Donald served in the Navy as an electrician's mate. After the war, he returned to the family farm where he worked until opening Palmer Chevrolet Garage in 1955. In 1970, Donald returned to the family farm until his retirement in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of Mason City; three children, Stephen Palmer and his wife Jean, of Mason City, Donna Smith and her husband, Brad, of Seattle, Wash., and David Palmer of Dalad, Iraq; one sister, Ferne Severns, of Britt; and his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Palmer. Donald was a kind and loving soul who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
