MARTIN, Dr. Frank-- Frank French Martin was born September 5, 1918 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The son of Dr. George H. Martin and Blanche B. French, he grew up in a Midwest farming community with his brother George and his sister Mildred. He received his Bachelors degree from the University of Iowa in 1940 and went on to Cornell Medical College. During his internship at St. Louis Maternity Hospital he worked in the maternity ward with his wife-to-be, Mary. They were married on December 24, 1944 just before his departure to the Philippines where he served as a U.S. Army doctor during World War II. After the war Frank and Mary had three children: Bill, Anne and Bob. In 1950, the Martin family moved to Northern California where Frank established his private medical practice in Palo Alto. Frank enjoyed family vacations, snow skiing in the winter, camping in the Sierras and relaxing at the beach in the summer. At home in Los Altos Hills he preferred to be outdoors on weekends gardening and working on home projects. Frank was a conservative man and cared greatly for the environment and wildlife. He devoted countless afternoons cleaning up the neighborhood walkways for which he received an honorary award from the Mayor of Los Altos Hills. Frank was known and loved by his friends, patients and family for his kind, compassionate, understanding nature. Besides his wife and children, Dr. Martin is survived by his seven grandchildren, Carrie, Gina, Sam, Vanessa, Jon, Thomas and David and one great-grandson, Dylan. Memorial services will be held Sunday, April 14th, 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 317 N. California Avenue, Palo Alto. The family prefers contributions be sent to: ABHOW Foundation, Pilgrim Haven, 373 Pine Lane, Los Altos, CA 94022. Arrangements under the direction of the LOS ALTOS CHAPEL OF SPANGLER MORTUARIES, 399 So. San Antonio Road, Los Altos.
