Rex L. Blankenship, 94, Lee's Summit, passed away Tuesday, January 31. He was a wise and gentle man who was devoted to his family. Rex was born in Texas, November 13, 1911, but spent his early life in Iowa. On June 14, 1935, he married Ruth Oswood. He farmed, worked for a creamery, sold eggs and was employed all through the depression years. In 1944, he joined the Navy and served with the Seabees in the Pacific Theatre. After his honorable discharge, he found employment with Farmland Industries in Eagle Grove, IA, for which he worked until he retired. In 1956, he was transferred by Farmland to Muskogee, OK, and spent 30 years in that area. After his retirement, he and Ruth enjoyed gardening and traveling in their motor home. They lived in Arizona for a few years and in 1992, moved to Lee's Summit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings. His gentle presence will be unbelievably missed by Ruth, his wife of 70 years, who he loved beyond measure; his daughter, Kay Ford and husband, Mike, of Lee's Summit; his daughter, Elaine Prior and husband Jerry of Oklahoma City; his beloved grandson, Michael Prior and his adored greatgrandson, Jake. Papa, we miss you. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 3, at Floral Hills East. No flowers, please. If you wish, contributions may be made to Lee's Summit Christian Church, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. (Arr. Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit)
