Lyle F. Haring, 84, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 19, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 20, at United Methodist Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Jim Kledis officiating. Interment is in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials have been designated to Central Community Schools FFA or Clinton County 4-H program. Pallbearers will be Bill Andresen, August Petersen, Jeff Jewell, Paul Stueland, Al Tubbs and Mike Whalen. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Meland, Ivan Barber, Fred Gerdes, Bill Homrighausen, Oliver Hansen, Bob Schlutz, Don Greiman, Glen Swanson and Dean Hurlbut.
Lyle Floyd Haring was born May 27, 1921, in Galt, Iowa, to Edwin and Lottie (Goddard) Haring. He graduated from DeWitt High School and attended Iowa State University for several years. Angus Cattle were Lyle's life. He was a regional manager for the American Angus Association for 31 years, retiring in 1985. Lyle pioneered the development of the Certified Angus Beef program, promoting the sale of Angus Beef in fine restaurants. Lyle founded the State of Iowa Junior Angus Association. He also was involved with the Clinton County 4-H Club Show for many years as a youth assistant. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt. His professional associations included National Cattlemen's Association, Iowa Cattlemen's Association, Clinton County Cattlemen's Association and Eastern Iowa Angus Association. Lyle was a longtime member of the DeWitt Noon Lions, Masons, KAABA Shrine, Jesters and VIP Club. He was a former Elmwood Cemetery Board Member and a charter member of the new Crossroads Masonic Lodge, DeWitt. Lyle was an avid antique collector and fisherman and was a Hawkeye and Cyclone fan.
Surviving are nieces and nephews. Preceding Lyle in death were his parents, a sister, Ruth Haring, and brothers, Ralph, Earl, Arthur and Vernal.
